Principal and co-founder
Timothy von Herrmann
Timothy von Herrmann is a Principal and a founding partner of Pan Pacific Partners, LLC.
Prior to founding PPP, Tim worked in the strategy consulting industry with a focus on Financial Services and Health Care clients. After 14 years consulting with Accenture in Chicago and Boston, he formed Argos Consulting Group in 2004 in the San Francisco Bay area. With both these organizations, he focused his efforts on serving Fortune 500 clients with a concentration on strategy development, process redesign, organizational effectiveness and financial modeling.
Upon leaving Argos Consulting in 2017, he focused on trustee and fiduciary responsibilities for his extended family. He combines his attention to detail, his structured approach to communications and problem solving, and his respect for his client’s unique situations in his new role with Pan Pacific Partners.
Tim graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science in 1982. Subsequently, he received his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Chicago in 1986. Tim currently serves on the board of Habitat for Humanity in Honolulu and delivers meals weekly through the Honolulu Meals on Wheels organization. He is married to Susan, an Estate Planning Attorney, and has four children.

Principal and co-founder
Cristopher J. Borden
Cris brings, to PPP, extensive experience in the financial services industry in areas including portfolio management, tax-efficient strategy construction, trading, and investment analysis. He was the lead tax-exempt bond portfolio manager at Bishop Street Capital Management (“Bishop Street”), a subsidiary of First Hawaiian Bank, from November 2000 to May 2007. At Bishop Street, he was responsible for portfolio management and trading of approximately $450 million in tax-exempt assets. Under his management, the Bishop Street Hawai’i Municipal Bond Fund received the Lipper award for highest total return in its class for 2001, 2002, and 2004 and maintained a four and five-star Morningstar rating during his tenure. He spent much of his time advising private banking clientele on cash management, constructing bond portfolios to minimize tax liabilities, and other investment matters. Cris also previously worked as an analyst with The Rendon Group in Washington D.C. from 1997 to 2000 and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nicaragua from 1995 to 1996.
In 2010, Cris was honored as one of the top forty professionals under 40 in Hawai’i. Currently, Cris serves on the investment committee of Kahala Nui, a luxury retirement facility on Oahu and is the Treasurer for Ho’okua’aina, a Hawaii-based not-for-profit.

John K. Matsumoto
John is a seasoned Hawai’i estate planning attorney. He is a member of the Probate and Estate Planning, Tax Law and Elder Law Section of the Hawai’i State Bar Association, as well as, having served as Treasurer of the Elder Law Section. John counsels clients on tax efficient and practical strategies to meet their personal planning objectives. He assists individuals, families and businesses with their legal needs and focuses his practice on estate planning, estate and trust administration and dispute resolution.
John is also a frequent lecturer on estate planning and has hosted a weekly radio program on probate, estate planning and trust administration. Sponsored by the Hawai’i State Bar Association, John has also authored a chapter in the Encyclopedia of Estate Planning.
For the years, 2016-2019, John was recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in Hawai’i, and in 2017-2019, selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America. John was a Five Star Wealth Manager in Honolulu Magazine and Hawaii Business Magazine from 2011-2013. This award recognizes the top seven percent of wealth managers in the Honolulu metropolitan area. In 2008, John was honored as a young business leader by Pacific Business News for their “Forty and Under 40 Award.” In 2004, John was selected as a member of the Pacific Century Fellows, a program patterned after the White House Fellows that chose a select group of Hawaii’s young leaders.
Prior to entering the practice of law, John served as an Acquisition Specialist analyzing mergers and acquisitions opportunities in Los Angeles, California and as an Accounting Manager for Century Small Business Solutions in Honolulu.

Analyst
Benny Tran
Benny earned his B.B.A in Finance at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. While pursuing his B.B.A, he was a student of the AKAMAI Finance Academy, a non-profit organization providing intensive financial training program designed to teach and apply Wall Street investment methods through corporate finance education and financial modeling. At AKAMAI, Benny performed company analysis using forward EPS projection models, and created research reports and pitchbooks to present trade recommendations to the investment committee.
Benny joined Kobo Wealth as a junior analyst in 2017. His roles include portfolio allocation analysis, creating and maintaining investment databases, portfolio proposal generation, and client relationship management. Mr. Tran possesses excellent computer and database/Excel management skills, and is fluent in Chinese Hokkien.
